Nine Breaths

daily practice

The human being is  more than just a physical body. On a subtle level, the material body is pervaded by multiple channels  through which energy  flows.  But as the tree has a main trunk as there are three main channels in our energy structure: the right (male), left (female) and central. The central channel is as thick as your thumb. It consists of blue light, runs along the axis of the body and opens up as a funnel at the top of the head. The right (male) channel consists of white light. It branches out from the central channel six fingers below navel, goes parallel to central channel, curves under the scull and exits through the right nostril. The left (female) channel consists of red light. It branches out from the central channel ten fingers below navel, goes parallel to central channel, curves under the scull and exits through the left nostril. These important channels tend to be constantly blocked with negative emotional pollutions. When cleared, our energetic system fully activates and pure spiritual qualities enlightened.

For details on three channels, mental obscuration and positive manifestations please see a table below.

To begin a practice sit with your spine straight and your chine lowered to your chest. Close your eyes, relax and breathe normally. Hands rest on your hips, shoulders are down. Concentrate on the practice. In the beginning use your imagination to follow the channels, but do not try to make up precise images. Learn to trust your intuition.

Take your right hand, press on the base of ring finger with the thumb and hold, and then close your right nostril with your right ring finger. Inhale through the left nostril. Imagine breathing in a green spring air. Use your attention to lead this green air from the entrance of left nostril through the left channel up to the scull and then down to the intersection of the channels five fingers below the navel. There hold the air for two seconds, unlock your right nostril and lock your left nostril with the same finger. Exhale the air from the intersection of the channels through the right channel up to the scull and then down through the right nostril. Imagine exhaling dark smoke of mental obscuration. At the end of exhalation contract belly muscles and push the air out. Repeat three times.

At the end release your hand and breathe through the right part of your body.

See your right channel glowing with a moon light.

Slowly move your attention to the left part of your body. Take your left hand, press on the base of ring finger with the thumb and hold, and then close your left nostril with your left ring finger. Inhale through the right nostril. Imagine breathing in a green spring air. Use your attention to lead this green air from the entrance of right nostril through the right channel up to the scull and then down to the intersection of the channels five fingers below the navel. There hold the air for two seconds, unlock your left nostril and lock your right nostril with the same finger. Exhale the air from the intersection of the channels through the left channel up to the scull and then down through the left nostril. Imagine exhaling dark pinkish smoke of mental obscuration. At the end of exhalation contract belly muscles and push the air out. Repeat three times. At the end release your hand and breathe through the left part of your body. See your left channel glowing with a ruby light.

Slowly move your attention to the central channel. Both hands rest on your hips. Inhale green spring air through your both nostrils. Use your attention to lead this air up to the scull and then down to the intersection of the channels. There hold the air for two seconds and then exhale through the central channel straight up. At the end of exhalation contract belly muscles and push the air out. Imagine exhaling black smoke out of your crown. Repeat three times. At the end relax and breathe through the whole body. See your central channel glowing with a light as blue as a sky over Himalayas. Remain seated for few more breaths.

During your daily life and night sleep try to maintain calmness, clarity and awareness achived during this practice.
